The pain of a ruptured disc
Know the causes and symptoms of this pain
A ruptured disc can occur in the spine and is very common in the lower back and neck areas. Many doctors have said that this is usually age related, but they have seen cases caused by other injuries and spinal diseases. This happens in your spine when a disc becomes damaged and the outer layer of the disc breaks open. This puts intense pressure on the rest of the nerve causing very intense pain. It is very important to see your doctor if you think you could have a possible ruptured disc.
There are many symptoms to look out for if you think you have a ruptured disc. Back and neck pain are the two most common symptoms. You could also experience numbness in the limbs and tingling. There could also be loss of movement in certain limbs and muscles and weakness in the muscles. This could cause you to not be able to lift objects the way that you have been used to.
Many of the people who suffer from ruptured discs may work in the manual labor industry. These workers are constantly lifting heavy objects and may not even notice that the pain begins. They could just be used to lifting every day. This is important for them to get checked out because it could be something that makes them change their line of work. Also if you drive a vehicle for a living, you could have a ruptured disc from sitting in the car or truck for long periods of time.
A few other causes of ruptured discs can be sports related and from poor lifting skills. It is important that you know the proper ways to lift heavy objects and if you feel that you cannot lift them alone, do not hesitate to ask for help. Many people that sit at a desk for work also have found that they have ruptured discs. It is important that if you do work at a desk every day, to get up and walk around during the day. No one will complain that you are walking around in the office!
If you notice any of these symptoms, be sure to get to your doctor. A ruptured disc can be extremely painful and it is important that you take action as soon as you can. Your doctor can give you just the right recommendation to make you feel better. They may suggest taking better care of yourself too, so be prepared for that!
